Ukhrul district internet services are no longer banned by the Manipur government.

After a clash between members of Hunphun and Hungpung villages over a protracted land dispute, the suspension of internet services in the territorial authority of Ukhrul began at 1:20 on Oct 2.

As a result of a government assessment of the security situation in Ukhrul, the restriction was once again extended for two more days, beginning at 1:20 on October 5.

Authorities in ethnically violent Manipur issued a red alert on October 3 after a gunfight killed two civilians and a Manipur Rifles officer; hours later, on October 3, a crowd raided a police station in Ukhrul, taking weapons and ammunition with them.

The state government’s joint secretary (Home) recently issued an order lifting the internet ban in the Manipur district of Ukhrul. This decision was made after a thorough review of the law and order situation in the district, taking into consideration the overall improvement in law and order as well as the inconveniences experienced by the general public during the suspension. The order was released on Monday.
