Tripura CM asks police to aggresively combat drug distribution

On Monday, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha instructed the police department to take more aggressive actions against drug sales and raise the conviction rate for different offenses in close coordination with lawyers.

Reviewing the state’s law and order situation at the Police Headquarters, the Chief Minister remarked that among the northeastern states, Tripura has the greatest incidence of narcotics seizures and item destruction.

Illegal drug trade has exploited Tripura as a corridor. CM Saha, who also owns the Home portfolio, asked the police to investigate the depth of the situation and take suitable action against drug peddlers, those behind the illegal business and smuggling.

According to the chief minister of Tripura, the BJP government has vowed to have zero tolerance for any kind of illicit drug trade.

In order to reduce the dangers posed by drugs to society, particularly to young people, Manik Saha argued that law enforcement should thoroughly investigate instances brought before them under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.

According to the Chief Minister, Tripura is one of the top states in the country when it comes to crime control. He has ordered senior police personnel to work closely with lawyers to enhance the conviction rate for different crimes to a satisfactory level.

CM Saha also instructed the police to reopen cases involving political violence, atrocities, rapes, homicides, and murders that occurred under the Left and Congress administrations in order to provide victims and impacted people with justice by upholding complete openness.

After accusing the police of being “used as political instruments during previous regimes,” the chief minister said that the police now had the authority to punish criminals.

He made it clear that the government will not back down from its commitment to enforcing law and order and combating crime.

According to Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan, the state’s crime situation has vastly improved over the last several months when compared to ten years ago and even two or three years ago.

According to the police officer, the 856-km-long border between Tripura and Bangladesh in the state will be further fortified with the assistance of central security agencies, particularly the Border Security agencies (BSF).
