Opposition MLA stages a walkout in Assam budget session

Guwahati, 12th July: The budget session of Assam Starts on Monday and it will continue upto 13th August. The opposition MLAs staged a walkout during the budget session protesting against over high prices of commodities.

MLAs demanded discussion on over-priced commodities

They demanded a discussion on the over-price rise of daily commodities. Their proposal was declined by the speaker Biswajit Daimary. As a consequence of rejecting their demand, the opposition MLAs led by AIUDF and the congress staged a walkout.

Save democracy was the slogan of the opposition MLAs

The opposition MLAs started to chant slogans such as ‘Save Democracy’ staging a walkout in the Assembly premises. Leader of Opposition and senior Congress leader Debabrata Saikia said, “The Assam CM wants to install an authoritarian state by trying to minimise and spread misinformation on the role and responsibilities of an MLA. It is a threat to democracy”.

The CM of Assam was also criticised by the MLAs

The opposition MLAs appealed to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to withdraw his remarks. The CM of Assam said that the duty of Assam is to frame the laws and the ministers have to implement all those laws front by the MLAs.
