The essential commodity was being prepared for sale in the market. According to a media report, the rice sacks were seized during a joint operation conducted by the Assam Police and Kamrup (Rural) District administration.
Rice bags recovered from a private company godown
It is reported that recently FCI rice bags were recovered from a godown of a private company named Chhayagaon Industrial Development Center, Chhatabari under Boko Police Station in Kamrup Rural District. The report quoted senior officials as saying that the illegal act came into light after villagers from Nadiar Par noticed suspicious movement of a truck laden with rice sacks and informed the police.
A team led by the officer-in-charge said that after questioning the driver and operator of the truck, huge irregularities were found in the warehouse of the private company. The report quoted a senior official as saying that they had seized one lakh bags of FCI rice, each weighing 50 kg, from the private godown. The official said the private company was repackaging the rice in its own brand and then shipping it to Meghalaya.
13 Trucks Seized
The team has also seized a total of 13 trucks. The report quoted Assam officials as saying that during preliminary investigation it was found that the private company is sending rice after repackaging to Assam Rifles in Meghalaya. The company also sends rice to other places and it is also feared that some big racket is involved in it. The company involved in the re-packaging has been identified as Maruti Qwality Products Pvt Ltd (MQPPL). According to the report, Deepak Agarwal, the owner of MQPPL and its godown, is currently absconding.
