Mizoram introduces its first Orchid centre for educational purpose

Aizawl, 21th November: Mizoram government introduces its first orchid center for study as well as preservation. Endangered species of orchids will be preserved here under the guidance of experts.

The total expenses of orchid center is Rs. 3.9 crores

The total cost required for the Orchid center is Rs. 3.9 crores and it was sponsored by the Mizoram government. One of lye officials of the Rural Development Department said thantre was funded under the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Rurban Mission (SPMRM)

Mainly the orchids of Mizoram will be available in the center

Mizoram Rural Development Minister, Lalruatkima, inaugurated the centre in Maubuang about 41 km from the capital city Aizawl and said that it would help in preservation and protection of orchid species, some of which are nearly extinct and found only in Mizoram.

A fully equipped laboratory for research will also be introduced

A laboratory has also been introduced by the centre mainly for tissue culture, green houses and other related ancillaries. The laboratory will be helpful for the students who want to know more about orchids of different species. It is hoped that the orchid center will be helpful for the students and their research work on orchids.
