Kidney traffickers targeted poor tea garden workers in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh, 15th July: Poor tea garden workers are being targeted by the kidney traffickers in Dibrugarh.

Poor tea garden workers were targeted by the agents

The traffickers are compelling poor tea garden workers to sell their kidneys in exchange for money. One such case of selling a kidney in exchange of money came to light in Dibrugarh. A tea worker named Ramu Karmakar (45) sold his kidney to an agent in the amount of Rs. 3.5 lakh in the month of April.

The agent evoked poor tea garden workers to sell his kidney

Ramu Karmakar informed that an agent approached him to sell his kidney in exchange for a good amount of money. The agent was identified as Jibeswar Deka of Guwahati. He compelled Ramu Karmakar to sell his kidney but Ramu refused to sell his kidney at first. When the agent raised the amount of money to 3.5 lakh, Karmakar agreed to sell his kidney. Karmakar said, ” After much thought, I agreed to sell my kidney, as I was in dire need of money.”.

ACMS is working to solve the matter

The Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) constituted a high-level committee to investigate the matter after knowing about the incident. Further investigation will be carried out once case is filed against the traffickers.
