Guwahati, 22nd October: The Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day was observed in Tinsukia district on Thursday.

An awareness rally was flagged off by Dipu Deka, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Health department.Dr Altaf Ahmed, the Joint Director of Health Services and Dr Chandralekha Saikia were also present in this program.
Volunteers from NGO were also present in this program
Volunteers of ADRA NGO also participated in the awareness rally.Deka said, The programme was aimed to bring the prevalence of iodine deficiency disorders below 5 per cent in the country and also to ensure 100 percent consumption of adequate iodized salt in every household of the country.
Awareness is being raised in the state
The World Iodine Deficiency Day was observed on October 21 across the world. One of the members said, “Iodine is an important element which is responsible for the overall growth of our body. Consumption of iodine on a regular basis is very much important for a healthy lifestyle”. It is high time to be conscious and manage the deficiency of iron in body.
