Dibrugarh couple arrested for torturing adopted child

Dibrugarh, 22nd July: A couple in Dibrugarh of Assam has been arrested by the Dibrugarh police for torturing their adopted child.

The couple used to torture their 13 year old adopted child

The Dibrugarh Police arrested Anuradha Baruah and Indrajit Handique for allegedly torturing a 13-year-old child. They adopted the child and lived together at their residence on the Dibrugarh university campus. Anuradha Baruah is a teacher at Bogibeel ME School whereas Indrajit Handique is an employee at Dibrugarh University. It was known that the couple used to torture the minor adopted child on a regular basis.

Dibrugarh police had filed a case against the couple

Dibrugarh police has registered a case (no 2407/21) under section 344,323, 294,506 of the IPC and r/w 14 of Child Labour Act. Further investigation was made and it was found that the couple locked their adopted child in the bathroom for continuous two days.

ASP Bitul Chetia has assured clear conclusion from the matter

ASP Bipul Chetia said, “We are not sure whether the couple has legally adopted the minor or not but further investigation will surely be made to get the exact conclusion”.
