An elderly man trampled to death by wild animal in Digboi

Digboi, 23rd July: An elderly man was crushed to death by a wild elephant at Durgabari of Digboi range on Wednesday.

The dead elderly man was identified as Chitranjan Chakraborty and he was 71 years old.

Forest department staff immediately gathered to the site

Forest Department personnel rushed to the site once they got to know about the incident. They also conducted necessary formalities and assured that further investigation will be made on this case. After the investigation the result will soon be in front of the public.

A compensation of rupees 4 lakh will be given to the family of the victim

The official said that a compensation of Rs 4 lakh will be given to the family of the victim by the Environment and Forest Department. The compensation will be given to the family just after receipt of the post-mortem report and other documents are collected.

The Assam government assured that preventive measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in the coming future

Environment and Forests Minister Parimal Suklabaidya informed on 14th July that over 800 people had died just because of the human elephant conflict. He also showed that preventive measures will soon be taken to reduce such cases in Assam.
