In a recent development in Agartala, Tripura which is witnessing a spike in COVID cases will have COVID testing drive from May 30. The testing will be done on a random basis which means one family member from every family will be tested for COVID-19 and if he or she is tested positive then the whole household will be sealed till a negative report comes.
Agartala comprises the large share of COVID positive cases in Tripura. Out of total 783 positive cases registered in Tripura in last 24 hours, 383 have been reported from Agartala city and West Tripura district only with 13 people succumbing to the deadly virus.
In lieu of these events, a press conference was held and Sadar Sub Divisional Magistrate Asim Saha said “We took the decision after seeing the high positivity rate in the AMC. Moreover, there are some people who are not interested to go for tests. We are planning to complete the testing drive in all the 49 wards within a month unless there is an increase in cases.” He added that the administration hopes to get a clear picture of the positive cases after the drive.
Twelve teams would be formed involving booth-level officers and social activists apart from healthcare employees and ASHA workers. According to the plan, at least one person in a family will be selected for the test. If anyone tests Covid-19 positive, then all his family members would have to undergo testing, he added.
